How to Play

Play Black and White Mahjong online for free. Black and White Mahjong is a Mahjong Solitaire game where players must match nearly identical stones that have different background colors. Match stones quickly to finish each board as fast as you can & play through as many boards as possible before the 20 minute timer reaches zero. Let the computer select your layouts or manually choose the layout you would like to play from 53 different designs. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Select the Play button in the center of the game’s welcome screen to start the game.
Near the Play button are buttons for how to play Help, High Scores, and More Games.
In the lower left corner of the welcome screen there is a language select drop down.
In the lower right corner of the welcome screen there are buttons to control game settings, share the game on social media channels, and read game developer information.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - Use your mouse left click button to select an open black or white stone & then select an matching open stone of the opposite color to pair them off.
  - Touchscreen devices
    - Tap an open stone on the screen with a finger & then select a matching open stone of the opposite color to pair them off.
    - Controls & indicators
      - The right rail of the game contains the game control.
        At the top it shows your score and remaining play time.
        Next there are 4 buttons to pause the game, switch to full screen mode, control game sound, and control game music.
        At the bottom are 4 buttons to take hints, shuffle remaining tiles, select board layout, or change game background.
        The game offers 53 different board layouts.
        The game has 6 different background design options.
        Game Play
        Matching stones
        Open stones
        You can only match open stones.
        Open stones are stones with no stones on top of them & at least one side (left or right) is free of other stones.
        You can only select open stones & they turn redish when selected.
        Making matches
        When you match a stone most matches must be identical other than the background color.
        When you match a set of stones one of them must be white and one of them must be black.
        In most cases the stones should be identically matching other than background color. The exceptions to this are flower and season tiles.
        Flowers can be matched with any other flower tiles (of the opposite color background).
        Seasons can be matched with any other season tiles (of the opposite color background).
        Levels
        This game allows you to play through as many boards as you can using a single 20-minute timer.
        If you beat the first board in 7:30 then you start the second board with 12:30 on the timer.
        When the timer reaches zero your game is over.
        There are 53 different board layouts you can choose from, or you can use a selection provided by the computer.
        Scoring
        Scoring points
        Each tile pair you match is worth 100 points.
        Each level you beat is worth a 5,000 point bonus.
        Spending points
        Shuffling tiles costs 500 points.
        Hints highlight a matching set of stones in purple and cost 150 points.
        Target Audience
        The game is suited for players who like Mahjong Solitaire tile match games.
